Hackathon
Background of the project
In 2016, I participated in Angelhack Hong Kong, a 24-hour hackathon. Our team designed and created a prototype of an insurance policy management mobile application called Insubook. Insubook was selected as top 5 of the contest.
Our team
Apart from teaching at university, I had also done internal UX workshops at my workspace in hopes of promoting UX practices. I observed that participants had very different expectations at workspace.

What problems did the app try to solve?
As an insurance client, I had been bothered by the difficulty in managing my policies. Making a mobile platform for policy management was always one of my plans to realize. Max, our team’s business analyst who worked in the insurance industry, contributed a lot of insights about users’ painpoints and needs. We identified the 3 most important users’ painpoints to focus on:
It’s difficult for users to manage policies across companies
Users were unaware of what’s covered by their current policies
Users wanted their beneficiary to be able to claim when they pass away
The solution
Our team considered many ideas and solutions but decided to limit our MVP to just 3 features due to the short timeframe. These 3 features corresponded to the 3 key painpoints we identified in the planning process.
Manage insurance policies
Auto-notification to beneficiary in case of death
Manage insurance policiesSearch engine where you can inquire about your coverage
